Best Ways to Fight Aging: Tips and Tricks to Keep You Looking Younger

Ah, aging. It’s a topic that’s on everyone’s mind at some point. 

I know for me it became a huge concern after I turned 50. 

I would look in the mirror and do the “faces”.  You know the ones – smiling, frowning, pulling your face back and then up. 

The whole time I was wondering how to stop the aging process. 

Even though I couldn’t stop time, I did find that there are plenty of things that I can do to fight the signs of aging and keep myself looking and feeling my best.

So, what are the best ways to fight aging?

Well, I can tell you from my experience and from talking to others that the answer is different for everyone because everyone’s bodies and lifestyles are unique.

These lifestyle choices can have a big impact on how we age and how we feel day-to-day.

But there are a few tried-and-true methods that have been shown to help slow down the aging process and keep us feeling young and vibrant.

From skin care to exercise to diet, we’ll be exploring all the best ways to keep ourselves looking and feeling our best as we age.

Healthy Eating Habits

That’s right, what you eat can have a huge impact on how you look and feel. 

Here are some of the healthy eating habits that I‘ve made a part of my daily routine to slow aging from the inside out:


Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet is very important for good health.

A balanced diet includes a variety of foods from all the food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy.

I make sure to include a variety of colors in my meals to ensure that I am getting all the necessary nutrients.

I also count my macronutrients every day to make sure that I get the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats to maintain my weight.

Staying hydrated is also very important for healthy aging.

As we age, our bodies lose water more quickly, so it is important to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

I personally make sure to drink at least 1 gallon of water a day, but the recommended amount is at least 8 glasses of water a day.

I also drink my share of herbal teas and fruit-infused water for added flavor and nutrients.

Try to avoid caffeine if possible since this can cause dehydration.

Can You Drink Water While Fasting?


Antioxidants are important for fighting the effects of aging on the body.

I make sure to include plenty of antioxidant-rich foods in my diet, like berries, dark leafy greens, and nuts.

Overall, including healthy eating habits in my daily routine has helped me feel more energized.

Physical Activity

Regular Exercise

Regular exercise is one of the best ways to fight aging.

It helps to keep your body fit and healthy and can also help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Exercise can also help to improve your mood and reduce stress levels.

It is important to combine aerobic exercise with strength training to get the most out of your fitness routine.

Aerobic exercise, such as walking, running, hiking, or cycling, improves cardiovascular health and burns calories.

Another way great aerobic exercise is to dance like no one’s watching.

Whether you prefer ballet, hip hop, or ballroom dancing, it’s a great way to get your heart rate up and burn some calories.

Plus, it can be a lot of fun and a great way to socialize with others who share your passion for dance.

Strength training, like lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises, helps to build muscle and bone strength.

The recommended amount of exercise is at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise every week or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise weekly, along with at least two days of strength training per week.

However, even small amounts of exercise can be helpful, so it’s important to find an activity that you enjoy and can stick with.

Yoga and Meditation

Yoga and meditation are also great ways to fight aging.

It can be done at any age and fitness level, and there are many different styles to choose from.

Meditation involves focusing one’s attention on a specific object, thought, or activity. It can help reduce stress and improve mental well-being.

For me, meditation has been a game changer.  It takes a while to get comfortable when starting a meditation practice, but it is worth it!

There are many different types of meditation, including mindfulness meditation, loving-kindness meditation, and transcendental meditation.

They can all be modified to fit your individual needs and abilities.


Laughing Out Loud: The Best Ways to Fight Aging 

Laughing is one of the most natural and enjoyable things that we can do, and it turns out that it can also be a powerful tool in the fight against aging.

Here are two ways that humor can help us stay young and healthy:

Comedy Shows and Sitcoms

Watching comedy shows and sitcoms are a great way to get a regular dose of laughter. 

Whether it’s a classic sitcom from the ’90s or a new comedy series on Netflix, finding a show that makes us laugh can be a great way to boost our mood and reduce stress.

Humor Therapy

Humor therapy is a form of therapy that uses humor to help people cope with physical and emotional challenges.

It can involve things like watching funny videos, reading humorous books, or attending comedy shows.

Skincare Routine

I’ve really found that taking care of my skin is more important than ever as I age.

The days of hanging in the sun without sunscreen, washing my face with soap and water, and not applying moisturizer are over!

Here are a few tips I found on how to create a skincare routine that will help you fight aging.

Sun Protection

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to protect it from the sun.

Here are a few ways to do that:

  • Wear sunscreen every day, even if it’s cloudy outside.
  • Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 30.
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours if you’re spending time outside.
  • Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun.


Moisturizing your skin is another important part of good skincare routine.

Here are a few tips on how to do it:

  • Use a moisturizer that’s right for your skin type.
  • Apply moisturizer to your face and neck every morning and night.
  • Look for a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid, which can help plump up your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Okay I’m going to admit – getting enough sleep is still a work in progress for me!

However, getting enough quality sleep is very important for fighting aging.

When we sleep, our bodies repair and regenerate, which is necessary for maintaining healthy skin, muscles, and organs.

Here are some tips for improving the quality of your sleep:

  • Stick to a regular sleep schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.
  • Create a relaxing sleep environment: Make sure your bedroom is cool, dark, and quiet. Use comfortable bedding and pillows.
  • Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol: These things can interfere with sleep quality and make it harder to fall asleep.
  • Limit screen time before bed: Blue light from electronic devices can disrupt your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.
  • Practice relaxation techniques: Deep breathing, meditation, journaling and yoga can help calm your mind and prepare your body for sleep.

Stress can have a huge impact on the aging process, both physically and mentally.

Therefore, it’s important to manage stress to maintain good health and slow down the aging process.


Mindfulness is being present in the moment and aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety, leading to a more relaxed and peaceful state of mind.

Here are some ways to include mindfulness in your daily routine:

  • Meditation: Set aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly and focus on your breath. This can help calm your mind and reduce stress.
  • Yoga: Practicing yoga can help improve flexibility, strength, and balance while also promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
  • Mindful breathing: Take a few deep breaths and focus on your breath as it enters and leaves your body. This can help calm your mind and reduce stress.

Hobbies can also be huge for managing stress and improving physical and mental health.

A few hobbies to consider are:

Regular Check-ups

Regular check-ups and routine testing are important for continued good health and for fighting aging.

Be sure to schedule regular appointments with your doctor and dentist to catch any potential health issues early. 

Also, make sure to schedule routine testing such as mammograms, colonoscopies, and blood work. 

Discuss any concerns or symptoms with your doctor during routine visits so they can help guide you on how to address them.

In addition to regular check-ups with my doctor, I also make sure to schedule regular dental appointments.

As we age, our teeth and gums become more susceptible to decay and disease.

Regular cleanings and check-ups can help prevent these issues and make sure that any problems are caught early.

Avoiding Harmful Habits


I personally am not a smoker, but I do know that smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your body and skin.

Smoking not only increases your risk of cancer and heart disease, but it also causes premature aging of the skin, which can make you look older than you really are.

If you are a smoker, you may want to consider quitting.

There are many resources available to help you quit, including nicotine replacement therapy, support groups, and counseling.

It may be a difficult journey, but the benefits are well worth it.

I’m not saying to stop all alcohol intake!

I am saying that you may want to limit your alcohol intake.

Alcohol can dehydrate your skin, making it look dull and dry, and can also cause inflammation, which can lead to premature aging.

Try to limit alcohol to 1-2 drinks per day.

Also, make sure to drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.


There are so many ways to fight aging and keep that young, sassy girl’s appearance.

It’s important to remember that aging is a natural process that can’t be completely stopped or reversed.

However, by following these tips, you can slow down the aging process and keep your healthy, youthful appearance longer.

It’s also worth noting that everyone’s body is different, and what works for one person may not work for another.

So, listen to your body and find the methods that work best for you.

Remember, aging is a beautiful part of life, and we should embrace it with grace and positivity.

By taking care of our bodies and minds, we can age gracefully and enjoy all that life has to offer.
